Salvation
True Jesus Church believes that salvation is a gift given by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and that believers must rely on the Holy Spirit to pursue holiness, honour God and love others.
Salvation is given by the grace of God through faith. Believers must rely on the Holy Spirit to pursue holiness, to honor God, and to love humanity.
信得救系本乎恩,也因着信;但必须依靠圣灵追求圣洁,实践经训,敬神爱人。
The Bible says, “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin separates us from God, and no amount of good deeds or self-discipline can remove it. That is why salvation has to come from God. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). Jesus, who had no sin, died for us and rose again so that we could be forgiven.
Faith in the Bible is more than agreeing with an idea. It means trusting God’s promises and obeying what He says. So responding to the gospel includes believing in Jesus, repenting of sin, and receiving the sacraments He commanded: baptism to wash away our sins, footwashing to have a part with Him, and Holy Communion to receive His life. We do these not to earn salvation, but because the Lord commanded them and works through them.
Salvation is a beginning, not a finish line. Through baptism we are born again, and God gives the Holy Spirit to help us live a new life. The Bible tells us to follow “holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14). This is not something we manage by willpower alone. We rely on the Holy Spirit to change us, little by little, until Christ returns.
At BMC, this is why church life is more than Saturday worship. Members pray, read the Bible, care for one another and try to live honestly at work and at home. None of us is perfect. We keep coming back to God’s grace, and we encourage one another to keep going.
Common questions
Isn’t believing in Jesus enough to be saved?
Believing in Jesus is the foundation, and true faith includes obeying what He taught. Jesus said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). So we believe faith is shown by repenting, being baptised and following the Lord’s commands.
Can a good person be saved without Jesus?
The Bible teaches that salvation is only through Jesus Christ. No one can be saved by good works alone, because all have sinned (Romans 3:23). There is “none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
If salvation is by grace, why do you talk so much about holiness?
Because grace changes the way we live. God saves us freely, and then calls us to a holy life with the help of the Holy Spirit (2 Thessalonians 2:13). Holiness is our response to grace, not a way to earn it.
