The Holy Bible

True Jesus Church believes that the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, and is the only basis for what we believe and the standard for how Christians live.

The article of faith
The Holy Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God, the only scriptural truth, and the standard for Christian living.

信新旧约圣经系神所默示,为证明真道唯一之根据,及信徒生活之准则。

The Bible was written over some 1,500 years by about 40 people who lived in different times and came from very different walks of life. True Jesus Church believes that behind these human writers there is one Author. As Peter wrote, “holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21). That is what we mean when we say the Bible is inspired by God.

Because the Bible is God’s word, it carries His authority. We do not place human traditions or later teachings on the same level as Scripture. When a question of faith comes up, such as how to be baptised or which day God made holy, we go back to what the Bible says. What the Bible does not teach, we do not teach as doctrine.

The Bible is also practical. It tells us who God is, what has gone wrong with the world and with us, and how we can be saved through Jesus Christ. In family life, work, money and relationships it is “a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). The Bible also says that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of private interpretation, so when we read it we ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand.

At BMC, every service is built around the Bible. Sermons start from a passage of Scripture, and the religious education classes for our children and youth are based on it too. Members are encouraged to read a little of the Bible every day. You are welcome to come with your questions, even if you have never opened a Bible before.

Common questions

The Bible has been copied for centuries. Hasn’t it been changed?

The evidence shows it has been passed down with great care. A very large number of ancient manuscripts have been found, far more than for any other ancient book, and they agree with each other to a remarkable degree. The scribes who copied the Scriptures treated them as holy and followed strict rules.

Isn’t the Bible out of date?

The deepest questions people face have not changed: how to deal with sin and suffering, what gives a short life lasting meaning, and how to have eternal life. The Bible answers these questions through Jesus Christ. Its value is best seen not by skimming it, but by putting what it teaches into practice.
